Tremolo Bar

A piece of hardware (usually a metal bar) on the bridge on some electric guitars that can be pushed or pulled to create a Tremolo by quickly tightening or loosening all strings. Some of these systems come equipped with a locking nut mechanism that holds the strings in tune after use.

Also called a whammy bar.
