The Fender Stratocaster is a Fender product that was created in the 50s. Like its older brother the Telecaster, the "Strat" has a 25.5" scale and a bolt on neck. Unlike the Tele which has a single cutaway design and was originally configured with just two single coil pickups, the Strat has two cutaways and was generally configured with 3 single coil pickups. These default pickup configurations later changed on both Fender models and it is common to see Strats and Teles with humbuckers and other variant pickup configurations.
The strat was a popular guitar in the 50s and early 60s, but it became one of the de facto standard rock/blues guitars in the late 60s because Jimi Hendrix predominantly played strats while he was revolutionizing rock guitar. Today, the double cutaway, 25.5" scale guitar design remains one of the most popular guitar designs.
