Neck

From GuitarWiki

Jump to: navigation, search

The part of the guitar where you place your hands to fret notes and chords. This also connects the body to the headstock.

There are typically three types of necks on electric guitars, bolt on necks, (introduced on the first mass produced Fender guitars) set neck (Gibson Les Pauls are prominent neck through guitars)and through neck. Bolt on necks are held to the body of the guitar by 3 or 4 bolts on the back of the guitar. The other type are set neck, where a pocket is cut into the wood of the guitar, and the guitar's neck is laid in and glued to the body, then sealed. Neck throgh is where the neck is the middle part of the body and "wings" are attached to the sides.
