History
The story of the Les Paul is that the Les Paul guitar is said to have been designed by the musician and inventor Lester Polfus, or Les Paul for short, and was the first solid bodied guitar. Lester is said to have approached Gibson with the idea, not seeing a market in it Gibson turned him down, but when Fender released the Telecaster Gibson needed a guitar to compete against it, so they went back to Lester to get the Les Paul from him, and so the Gibson Les Paul was born.
That version of events is in part fabrication or fantasy. Lester may have invented the concept, and even the specific pickup technology, there where other solid bodied guitars at the time, or under development, although they where not manufactured, and Lester may or may not have been aware of them. The physical design of the guitar is clearly a Gibson design, and Lester Polfus' guitar was more like a piece of wood with a neck stuck on it, and the two pickups on the piece of wood. Lester's original guitar was nicknamed 'The Log', a name which has since been adopted by the Gibson Les Paul by some players.
Construction
The Gibson Les Paul is a Solid Body electric guitar, which has a Set Neck. It has an arch top on the body.
Artists and musical styles
In modern times, the Les Paul is strongly associated with Rock and Metal music, this is of course due to the popularity of music of that style nowadays, and when that music genre was evolving the Les Paul was a popular insrtument due to it's quality. Of course when the instrument was first introduced that music style was not around, and the Les Paul would have been employed for music of the time.

Les Paul
Year:2005
Reationship:I own it
Price Paid:$2000
Purchased from:Guitar center
Sound: 8/10 It sounds very well when I crank up the volume and put my distortion pedal on it. It is very quiet when I turn the volume, very little feed back. I was surprised on how well it could play heavy metal, along with a wide range of other types of music. I got it mostly for playing rock and roll but I found it plays other styles such as reggae, metal, soft rock, hard rock, etc.
Durability:10/10 It was very durable, it can last me for years to come with out having any trouble of maintace.
Overall:9/10 I thought overall it was a very well put together guitar, great sound, wide variety of music it could play, just all round a great guitar.
