Fret Marker

A fret marker is basically a 'guide' on the fret board so it is easier to find finger placements. They usually come in the form of marble-like circles and are found on the frets 3, 5, 7, 9, 12, 15, 17, 19, 21 etc ..

The fret marker on the 12th fret is usually different to all the other fret markers to emphasise that it is:

  • a) one octave higher than when the string is hit open
  • b) Exactly in the centre between the bridge and nut

Some guitars, especially such makes as PRS, use designs/patterns like eagles and dragons as fret markers as apposed to just circles.
